MBA Schools Widen Admission Criteria
In order to attract more quality students, many MBA schools are moving away from the GMAT as the only important test for admission to an MBA program and offering more diverse options to potential candidates from increasingly varied backgrounds.
According to BusinessWeek, there are now more than 250 MBA programs that allow applicants to submit the GRE exam with their applications, instead of only accepting the GMAT.
“The GMAT is a very successful standard for business schools, but that is certainly not the only standard,” Bill Sandefer, director of graduate admissions at Tulane’s Freeman School, told the magazine.
The move away from a single test standard is part of the general move to open up the MBA to more non-traditional groups. Many MBA schools are accepting younger applicants with less work experience than had previously been the norm, and there has been a general move to actively recruit more women and minority students into MBA programs.
MBA schools are willing to look beyond the traditional candidate to anyone who shows the drive and passion required to earn an MBA degree. In this time of increasing opportunity and diversity, it may be the perfect time to start your journey towards an MBA.
