The responsible MBA
The international Master of Business Administration (MBA) qualification is being aligned more closely with the ethics of responsible management.
The Association of MBAs, an international accreditation body for the MBA, is partnering with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as part of the UNGC’s Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative.
As part of the partnership the Association has asked the UNGC, a United Nations initiative to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, to participate in its 2010 review of accreditation criteria for all MBA programmes.
This means that business schools who want to obtain international accreditation status will have to ensure that they fulfil all aspects of the rigorous assessment criteria – including those guided by the PRME.
“We are very excited about our strategic partnership with the PRME,” said Jeanette Purcell, chief executive of the Association of MBAs. “It will strengthen our position as the champion for high standards in responsible management education. We support the PRME’s objectives and will work to ensure that the principles are at the forefront of our thinking as we consider the MBA’s future development”
The PRME are internationally-recognised standards designed to inspire and champion responsible practices at business schools and management-related academic institutions.
Dr Manuel Escudero, special adviser to the UNGC and head of the PRME secretariat, said: “I am truly delighted to have formed this strategic partnership with the Association of MBAs. They are a pioneering organisation that is undertaking groundbreaking work. Through our collaboration we hope to open up new horizons in postgraduate management education.”
