Hispanic MBA convention begins in Minneapolis
The National Society of Hispanic MBAs kicked off its 2009 annual convention at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Thursday.
The convention, which runs through Saturday, is expected to draw more than 8,000 MBA students, professionals and executives. This year’s theme is “Think Ahead, Move Forward.”
Minneapolis-based Target Corp. is the event’s lead corporate sponsor and the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management is the lead academic sponsor.
Other local sponsors include Arden Hills-based Land O’Lakes Inc., Minnetonka-based UnitedHealth Group Inc., Eden Prairie-based Supervalu Inc., Golden Valley-based General Mills Inc. and the University of St. Thomas.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty is scheduled to attend the convention’s ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning.
Then at a Friday luncheon, the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) will present its annual Brillante Awards to three companies and four individuals, including General Mills Director of Talent Acquisition & Diversity Isaias Zamarripa. The Brillante Awards are given to “outstanding leaders and corporations whose work and contributions reflect NSHMBA’s mission to foster Hispanic leadership through graduate management education and professional development to improve society.”
The conference also will include a career expo, featuring more than 250 corporations and academic institutions, as well as various corporate networking events.
